Abstract: |
This study investigates the relationship between China's outward direct investment (ODI) in the agricultural sector (agricultural ODI) and agricultural product export trade, and employs an in-depth analysis from the perspective of investment facilitation to establish a theoretical foundation for guiding investment decisions by Chinese agricultural enterprises and fostering high-quality development in agricultural product trade. Drawing on the panel data covering the period 2014-2021 from China, 12 RCEP (Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership) partner countries, and major reference nations, this study focused on RCEP partner countries to measure the level of investment facilitation, analyzed the relationship between agricultural outward direct investment (ODI) and agricultural product export trade, and explored the moderating effect of investment facilitation in this context, then empirically validated these findings. The results were listed as follows. Within the RCEP framework, developed nations demonstrated comparatively higher levels of investment facilitation, whereas developing countries exhibited generally lower levels, yet with notable potential for enhancement. There was a positive correlation between agricultural direct investment and agricultural product exports. Significantly, the interaction coefficient between investment facilitation and agricultural direct investment proved statistically significant. Furthermore, distinct regulatory effects were observed among various primary indicators of investment facilitation. In summary, China's outward direct investment (ODI) in agriculture towards RCEP partner countries exerts a discernible promotional effect on agricultural product exports. Investment facilitation exhibits a positive moderating influence in this context: as the level of investment facilitation improves among RCEP partner countries, the export impact of China's agricultural ODI strengthens, contrasting with the situation in non-RCEP countries. Moreover, nations with higher levels of facilitation experience a more pronounced export-promoting effect from agricultural investment. Among the facets of investment facilitation, enhancements in institutional environment, infrastructure quality, and business ease notably bolster the export-promoting efficacy of agricultural ODI, whereas financial service efficiency and technological innovation capacity show negligible moderating effects. |
